Fon mobile concept explorations 2013
Fon is a Spanish company whose devices turn a personal wifi home connection into a public wifi hotospot. Any fon user who created a wifi hotspot is granted access to the whole fon network.
This concept study explores the idea of adding a mobile component to their offering. Users on the go would carry a small puck with LTE and wifi capabilities that could be used in areas not covered by the larger fon network.

01 Inspired by the original fon router this concept fuses both devices to create a complete shape. A soft base serves as a cradle for the mobile LTE hotspot and charges it wirelessly. When on the go, the puck can easily be grabbed on the way out leaving the base exposed.
The mobile hotspot is surrounded by a translucent ring that lets shine an LED through to indicate connection status etc… To charge while away from home the ring can be peeled off to reveal a mini usb port.
The small and light base router has a small pocket underneath that brings the connectors forward. The cables run through an arch at the back of the device avoiding any unwanted tipping when sitting at the edge of a surface.

02 The two devices are clearly distinct. The base router still serves as a cradle but is minimized to the most compact volume possible.
The mobile hotspot stands upright ready to be grabbed on the way out. A top flat surface lights up as a status indicator while the bottom holds a door hiding the usb connector required for charging on the go.
